The museum is the most unique in the world. It was established on the site of the world's oldest crude oil mine, founded in 1854 by Ignacy Łukasiewicz. The idea behind the creation of the museum was to preserve the beginnings of the oil industry in Poland.

During the trip entitled RETRACING THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE OIL PIONEERS, you can see 19th-century excavations that are still getting filled with crude oil. On the route, there will be information about the creators of the oil industry, as well as about the initial drilling techniques in search of crude oil. Multimedia and holograms are a real treat, which will allow you to understand the beginnings of the
era of liquid ''black gold''.

THE PLAN OF THE ROUTE RETRACING THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE OIL PIONEERS includes:

- going through the educational path,
- visiting the oldest part of the mine (obelisk, ''Franek'' mine, ''Janina'' mine, manual drilling rig,
Canadian drilling rig with a locomotive),
- visiting the multimedia exhibition in the so-called Home of Łukasiewicz,
- visiting the nineteenth-century buildings of the workshop and forge,
- ending the route by the “Naftusia” house.
